THE man boxing aficionados called ‘The Assassin’ and who rose from the bottom of the pit to the top of his game is retiring.
Queensland-based International Boxing Organisation (IBO) world super-featherweight champion Jack Asis has announced his retirement from professional boxing.
“This decision was not an easy one,” pinoz Asis said. “But in my heart I know is what is best for me and my family.
“I’ve had a great career and I’m very lucky my dreams did come true.”
In his last fight, Asis lost his world title by unanimous decision to South Africa’s Malcolm Klassen in Port Elizabeth, South Afrida.
He finished with a record of 59 bouts for 35 wins (18 by knockout), 19 losses (6 by knockout), and 5 draws.
Along the way, Asis collected not only the IBO world super-featherweight title but also the Australia super-lightweight, Australian lightweight, and the Philippine featherweight titles.
“Jack has nothing left to prove,” said manager Brendon Smith. “And the reality is we’ve tried to lure the big names, Billy Dib, Joel Brunker, Will Tomlinson and for one reason or another none of them would agree to a bout with Jack.
Smith said he had no doubt Jack will still be around the sport. He has the potential to be a great trainer one day if that’s what he chooses to do.
Asis said he no regrets about his decision to retire from boxing.
“Now that my career is over I have more time with family,” he said.
“My daughter is six years old this year and she has sacrificed so much with me being away chasing my dream now it’s time for me to spend as much time with her as possible.
“I will miss boxing but at same time I remember I’ve been very lucky to be able to achieve what I did.”
Chamberlyn Ebgao Asis was born in Davao City in the Philippines’ island of Mindanao on June 11, 1983 and moved to Manila as a homeless street kid.
He knocked out Edward Javier in his first bout on November 2, 2002 at the Joe Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City, Metro Manila.
Asis stands 5ft 6in (168cm) tall and boxed a total of 395 rounds of boxing, with knockout-win record of 31 per cent.
